Why Staying Up-to-Date with Claris FileMaker Certifications Matters

Ben Fletcher • 1 July 2025

In the fast-evolving world of software development, keeping your skills sharp isn’t optional—it’s essential. For organisations building business-critical solutions on Claris FileMaker, ensuring your developers maintain the latest certifications is more important than ever.

The Certification Advantage

Claris FileMaker certifications validate a developer’s knowledge of the latest platform features, security best practices, and recommended deployment techniques. Certification isn’t just about passing an exam—it demonstrates an on-going commitment to professionalism, quality, and continual learning.  The first official certification programme was introduced with FileMaker Pro 7 with Prometric and was updated with each major release until the FileMaker 19 examination was released by Pearson VUE in 2023.  In 2025, Claris has now moved away from these 'monolithic' certifications and given the rapid pace of new releases and broadening support for new products (Claris Connect, Claris Studio) and technologies (Oauth, REST, AI/LLMs), has moved to a more agile and regular release of 'microqualifications' via Claris Academy portal.

Why does this matter to you as a customer? Because working with certified developers:

  • Ensures your solution is designed using current best practices.
  • Increases confidence in system security and compliance.
  • Reduces technical debt through future-ready design.
  • Offers access to developers with deep knowledge of the entire Claris ecosystem.

Claris FileMaker Platform Is Evolving

The Claris platform has undergone significant enhancements over recent releases, including tighter integration with Claris Studio, native support for REST APIs, and features like OAuth authentication to enhance security. In 2025, the push towards AI integration, cloud-native deployments, and robust cross-platform support continues to reshape what FileMaker can deliver.  An outdated certification means missing out on practical knowledge about these new capabilities.

Protecting Your Investment

Your Claris FileMaker App is more than a database engine, UI and scripting language for automation—it’s the backbone of your business operations. Working with certified developers ensures you’re not left behind when new security vulnerabilities, performance enhancements, or integration opportunities become available.

A certified partner like DataTherapy brings a team whose credentials reflect the current state of the platform, not just historical experience.

The Claris FileMaker Server 21.1.4 update is now available and includes important fixes that address known issues from previous versions: Key Fixes 1. Field definitions incorrectly read from cache. A bug introduced in version 21.0 caused field definitions to be incorrectly cached, resulting in symptoms such as: Empty related fields Missing value lists and indexes “Insufficient privileges (error -9)” messages 2. Windows only: Server-side script sessions limited by CPU cores. Version 21.1.3 limited simultaneous server-side script sessions to the number of CPU cores on Windows. This impacted I/O-bound environments by unnecessarily queuing sessions. 21.1.4 resolves this by allowing up to 50 concurrent script sessions on Windows before queueing begins—regardless of CPU cores. These sessions may be triggered by schedules, OData, or Perform Script on Server (PSoS). Note: This behavior is not controlled by the AllowPSoS setting. Claris Recommends: To ensure system stability, it is advised to limit active clients to 40 - 45 simultaneous sessions. Exceeding 50 may result in delays, memory overload, or session hangs. Do you need assistance with upgrading? DataTherapy are pleased to announce that Claris FileMaker 2024 (version 21.1) managed private cloud hosting packages are immediately available.
