Claris FileMaker 19.6 is now End of Life

Still using FileMaker 19.6? Time to upgrade . . .

Claris commits to a 2 year support period for patches to address critical bugs and security issues when each new version of the FileMaker platform is released.   After that the release version becomes end of life (EOL) and no new fixes will be released for that version.

Given that the majority of organisations make use of Cloud hosting with servers being publicly accessible over the internet, it is critical to stay up to date with software releases to ensure that your data is as secure as possible.

Claris FileMaker 19.6 was released Dec 2022 and so end of Dec 2024 it is officially EOL and will no longer be supported.  If you are still running a FileMaker 19.6 server then you should be making plans to migrate to FileMaker 2023 (supported until Apr 2025) or better still the latest production release FileMaker 2024 (supported until June 2026).

If you are are still running FileMaker 19.6, then take a look at our guide to upgrading your Apps to the FileMaker 2024 platform which can be found here:

https://www.datatherapy.com/planning-your-upgrade-to-claris-filemaker-2024-platform

You should also check that your current Server can meet at least the minimum requirements for FileMaker Server 2024 and that your user machines can support running FileMaker Pro 2024.  The tech specs can be found here:

If your current on-premises server is too old to upgrade, then it may be worth consulting a managed private cloud server - our standard pricing options can be found here, with entry level options available from as little as £100+VAT month.

While the most optimal solution is to upgrade your users to the same release version as the Server, it is still possible to connect to Claris FileMake Server 2024 with old versions of FileMaker Pro if you have a few legacy machines which are not economical to immediately replace (FileMaker Pro clients 2024/21.x, 2023/20.3, and 19.x can still connect).

If you don't know where to start, then why not contact our Team for a free initial consultation by getting in touch with us today. We're here to help you achieve your business goals.

The Claris FileMaker Server 21.1.4 update is now available and includes important fixes that address known issues from previous versions: Key Fixes 1. Field definitions incorrectly read from cache. A bug introduced in version 21.0 caused field definitions to be incorrectly cached, resulting in symptoms such as: Empty related fields Missing value lists and indexes “Insufficient privileges (error -9)” messages 2. Windows only: Server-side script sessions limited by CPU cores. Version 21.1.3 limited simultaneous server-side script sessions to the number of CPU cores on Windows. This impacted I/O-bound environments by unnecessarily queuing sessions. 21.1.4 resolves this by allowing up to 50 concurrent script sessions on Windows before queueing begins—regardless of CPU cores. These sessions may be triggered by schedules, OData, or Perform Script on Server (PSoS). Note: This behavior is not controlled by the AllowPSoS setting. Claris Recommends: To ensure system stability, it is advised to limit active clients to 40 - 45 simultaneous sessions. Exceeding 50 may result in delays, memory overload, or session hangs.
